Why independent verification matters for missing-children cases

International bodies have documented the transfer and, in some cases, unlawful adoption of Ukrainian children since the start of the full-scale invasion. General documentation establishes the pattern; it does not, on its own, establish what happened to any individual child.

That is the gap independent, source-based verification is meant to close: taking a documented pattern and, case by case, tying it to named sources — official statements, records, and reporting — that a journalist, lawyer, or family member could check for themselves.

We publish individual cases only once they meet that bar. Where they don't yet, we don't publish speculation in their place.
