Why this work matters
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian children have been transferred and, in some cases, unlawfully adopted by the aggressor state — documented by international bodies as a grave breach of the law of armed conflict. Independent, source-based investigation is essential to establishing what happened to each child.
Accountability for these acts, and for the war more broadly, depends on evidence gathered and preserved to a standard that can hold up in international proceedings. At the same time, the war leaves lasting wounds on those who serve — work that continues long after the front line moves.
